about

A lovetale of youth unravels in this new, delicate single from the danish indie-folk darlings.

On March 3, the Copenhagen based trio invoked the springtime with their self-produced tune, 'Savory Sundays'. SUNDAYS now follow up with a brand new mid-spring-hymn, in a retrospective theme in both lyrical and musical sense.

Songwriter and leadsinger, Magnus Jacobsen, elaborates on the lyrical side: "Actually, 'Forever Too Late' is kind of an unusual lyric in my textual universe. Normally I do my best to describe my here-and-now feelings and considerations, but in this tune I wind a good while back to retrieve inspiration. The song isn't even about any experience from my own life, but rather a conceptualization of a hypothetical situation, I could have experienced back in my teens".

The story centers a young couple of friends; the protagonist and his/her best friend. The two hide behind the cover of bushes, secretly watching another couple indulging themselves in teenage-love. The drama unravels around the fact that our protagonist and narrator is in love with one of the monitored youngsters, whilst the best friend is in love with the protagonist - all playing out in this little dramedy about young, unmet and blind love. The blue-eyed fabel is accompanied by a soundscape, which further expresses the songs rearview theme, reminding of the sound from their debut release "The Day Will Come" EP from 2017.

One mans trash, another man's treasure

SUNDAYS has from the very beginning focused on balancing the artistic balance of the music with a visual output. The collaboration with danish artist, Kathrine Milner, kicked off with the groups previous single, and continues on the artwork for 'Forever Too Late'. In search of the good match between sound and image, Magnus and Kathrine found a distinct yet beautiful connection between the songwriting and visual art behind the song.

Magnus explains:

"While we were talking about the composition of this particular image, Kathrine told us that the canvas is a "shitboard", meaning an old, wooden board, that she had found in her parents old attic. Besides the word "shitboard" being hilarious, I found this incredibly beautiful, since the piece of wood became part of something mesmerizingly gorgeous. The same theme resonates with the guitar that I have written all my songs since 2019 with, including 'Forever Too Late', which is a banged and torn up old Levin, that I found by a dumpster. The guitar had to come home with me, as did the shitboard with Kathrine, and now they meet in this joined trashcan of new beauty."

'Forever Too Late' is mixed by Nick Korzi out of Pittsburgh (PA), and the master is cut by Caspar Hesselager. The single releases on April 28, and is the second issue towards the album trilogy finale, 'Giant Formula'. This spring single will be part of the set, when the group plays Nashville Nights in Odense, September 15, 2023.

lyrics

“You’re talking too loud” trembled over my brakes
As we leaned ourselves into the bushed
You held a finger to your mouth as a sign of restrain
Though I really, really hoped you wouldn’t

Then I felt your breathing,
while your eyes were in the nowhere skies
I’m changing with the seasons
But you are always by my side

My head’s on the freeway
Racing my conscience
For no good reason
‘Cause you’re one breath away
But forever I’m too late

You nodded your head towards a gap in the leaves
Though I’d almost forgot our mission
She was rolling around, but not alone, I could see
I’m sure I looked like a ghost when she kissed him

I fell like a landslide
Made a ruckus as they turned their heads
My legs felt like granite
And I remember all you said;

“Your head is on the freeway
Racing your conscience
For no good reason
‘Cause I’m one breath away
But forever you’re too late”

Then I felt your breathing,
while your eyes were in the nowhere skies
I’m changing with the seasons
But you are always by my side

My head is on the freeway

'Racing my conscience
For no good reason

‘Cause you’re one breath away

But forever I’m too late
