about
The fruits of corona gets harvested with a juicy and self-produced spring single, that exhibits new musical brush strokes from the danish indie folk group.
The Copenhagen based group, SUNDAYS, have kept their listeners waiting with new material to succeed the internationally acclaimed 'Inner Coasts' from March 2021. The album primarily contained songs written in the wake of the debut, and although the corona pandemic was raging across the planet, the band kept their minds fixed on releasing the album in the eye of the storm - risking their chance to tour the songs anytime soon. However, the national restrictions had the side effect of making a path for writing new material. Songwriter Magnus Jacobsen sheds some light on the period: "Savory Sundays is the first song I wrote after the batch for Inner Coasts. The calm and stillness I found at my cottage during the forst lockdown, made this song almost write itself. It hit some new strings, which turned out to be a fruitful source to my songwriting".
Shorty after the release of Inner Coasts, the band had to part with guitarist, Victor Ovesen, but the remaining trio consisting of Marie Linander (bas), Morten Falk (drums) and Magnus Jacobsen (vocals and guitar) strongly believed in the new songs, and their own abilities to create a solid space for the sound that Savory Sundays played a great part in defining. The single is produced by the band itself and mixed by Nick Korzi out of Pittsburgh (US). "The lyrics circle the thoughts of the striving artist in the constant aim and struggle to climb the career ladder, and it illuminates that little voice in the ears that tells if you're not doing enough to make it happen".
// If you know everything, you don't know anything at all //
"The song is a reminder to myself about why I make music. First and foremost, it must be a joyful and free space for me and the wonderful people I share the music with. The whole push-yourself-harder attitude I've had towards myself for years, is buried in the past now". The single furthermore initiates a collaboration with danish painter, Kathrine Milner, with whom the band have long dreamed of working with. As the creator of the groups visual identity, morten elaborates: "We have followed Kathrines magnificent work for a long time, and truly feel that her style corresponds perfectly with the music we're making now".
Savory Sundays releases on March 3, as the first outlet towards SUNDAYS' upcoming album, 'Giant Formula', which the band is working hard to finalize, for the completion of their album trilogy. Meanwhile, this brand new spring single will meet its audience on a few selected shows in 2023: 11/3 Herlev Community House (Cph), 26/8 Hook & Cook (Thorup Strand) and 15/9 Nashville Nights in Odense.
lyrics
If you know everything
You don’t know anything at all
If you’ll do anything to get ahead you’re really moving along
When I get back in shape
Show me a way to get around
‘cause I’ve been so afraid of kicking up all the punches I’m keeping down It’s better now
My savory sundays
I thought I’d reconcile
with this parrot on my back
It keeps repeating my endeavors, but never lifts me off these tracks
I dropped my camouflage
Leading back to where I was
When I decided to let sweeter things back into my sour heart
They’re not so far;
My savory sundays
All that I know
is how to let go
Afraid of losing my control
And you say that’s over now?
I was lost
I know, it’s so original
It’s where nobody’s been before
I know how to love
Although I play obliviously dumb when someone tags along
My savory sundays
My savory sundays
