about
The Danish band SUNDAYS take you on a jorney through North Jutlandic childhood memories, greek mythology and an Icelandic fluke leading to a continental collaboration.
Lead singer and songwriter Magnus Jacobsen grew up in the suburbs of Aalborg befriending a girl 2 years older than him. This friendship was in itelf a teaching of what awaited him in life – and seeing her grow into a young woman and becoming something else than he used to know, this ultimately meant the inevitable end to their friendship.
The greek mythology comes into the picture, due to the fact that the song was written on the mythic greek island of Ithaka - the home of Odysseus. Magnus used the ancient tale as an inspiration for the songwriting process.
Meanwhile, the band’s drummer, Morten Falk was playing at Iceland Airwaves where he discovered the band Morning Bear, who had brought along a cellist- player with danish roots; Taylor Rae Jensen. He instantly knew that she was a perfect fit for a SUNDAYS sound – and so a connection was made that ended up on the new single.
lyrics
Shade Of The Pines
Are we here tonight?
I see you change in the shade of the pines,
We’ll go a little bit deeper this time around.
There’s no lung that can keep up the pace,
When every hour keeps running away
And we bathe in bloom,
I see your face in the shape of the moon,
When we go under I’ll reach for the truth and say;
When I fall will you carry me name,
And carve it unto the back of this train,
Taking us further and further away?
Don’t say you’re going to save me,
You’re not always going to save me
And I ache my love,
For a song I can slip through your drapes,
And you would open and call out my name so high,
I’ll be swept off the beach in your eyes,
And we’ll be back in the shade of the pines.
But they’re getting harder and harder to find.
Don’t say you’re going to save me,
I know you’re going to save me.
